Greetings my friends!
It gives me much pleasure to inform you, that our Server Migration to the new Board has now been successfully completed. Well,
mostly successfully, anyway.
Due to his current illness, our esteemed Technical Wizard Gandalf was unable to oversee our latest Forum move; therefore Lord Enki and myself were left with the daunting and unenviable task of undertaking the data transfer ourselves. What you see before you, is all that remains of our valiant, yet to be honest,
imperfectly executed migration.
The new Forum looks exactly the same as our current design here, and rest assured that everything we needed to take with us, has indeed been successfully transferred to the new site. The 'unsuccessful' part I alluded to above, is what remains left behind, here. (Or, rather, the
lack of it, you could say!)
You may well have noticed (probably almost immediately), the stark appearance of 'emptiness' around the place?!
Unfortunately, during the transfer, rather than "copying" the majority of the content from here to there, you could say that it was more of an inadvertent '
cut and paste'. By the time we had realised what was happening, vast chunks of the content here had already been deleted; but rather than panicking, as we could see that all of our data was successfully in place at the new site, we decided to finish the migration as it was, and tidy up afterwards.
In the end, so little was left behind, we just decided to go the whole hog, and remove most of the remaining content too. Once we had completed the move, it was always intended that this current Forumotion site would only be retained as a back up forum anyway, so that we still have somewhere to communicate in the unlikely event of future extended downtime at the new site. So in the grand scheme of things, no harm done.
Whilst you will immediately notice, that along with the disappearance of a few thousand posts in the board statistics, other than Staff Members, all of your old log in accounts have also gone. Again, this was not intended originally, but I am happy to assure you, that your usernames / member accounts are all securely in place at the new site, with all your post-counts fully intact.
So again, no harm done.
All that now remains here, are a few important intro / noticeboard type posts that we rolled back (so it's not a completely empty shell, and some stuff in the Admin and Control Rooms.
In the unlikely event that we do ever need to use our space here again as a back up, just re-register under your same username, and we'll re-activate you. But there is no need for you to do so right now, as from this moment, the new site is fully operational for you to log in; and continue posting as usual. Everything remains visually the same, just on our very own new server and domain, so that we now have full control over the expansion of our Community and our various Projects that are ongoing, as well as the enhanced security of having full responsibility for our own data.
Naturally, as a Private and Invite only Community, we shall not be publicly publishing the new domain address for the new site. We ask all members to please check your email accounts, as further details of how to access the new Forum have been sent to all members on our database.
If for any reason you should find that you have not received these invitation and activation notices into your inbox, firstly please check your spam boxes in case your email client has misidentified our messages to you; and if you still do not find the invitations, then please send me an email to my personal email account (the one I use to send you Project Updates from), and I will be happy to resend your invitation.
On behalf of all our Team of Staff, we thank you for your patience at this time, and look forward to welcoming you to our new Home!
Sincerely,
Your Administration and Security Team:
Morpheus, Gandalf, Enki, Wolf 424 and Trinity.
